For this project students will need to research different candidates running for governor here in Maine in the upcoming Election (2026). Find a list of candidates for the June 7th primary below:
Democrats: Shenna Bellows, Troy Jackson, Angus King III, Hannah Pingree, and Dr. Nirav Shah.
Republicans: Jonathan Bush, Robert Charles, David Jones, James Libby, Garrett Mason, Owen McCarthy, Ben Midgley; and Robert Wessels.
Independents: Rick Bennet, Edward Crokett, John Glowa, Alex Murcheson, Dereck Levasseur
Students will need to pick a candidate they like and then do a deeper research project about this candidates’ stances and beliefs.
1. First you will need to find the candidates most important stances, such as: taxes, education, immigration, health care, Climate, energy, civil rights, etc.
2. Research the candidates background and experiences.
3. Lastly, You will need to create a campaign poster, flyer, social media post, campaign ad, or similar campaign material to convince others to vote for your candidate.
Grading Criteria:
1. Depth & Thoroughness of Research (33%) Do you know the candidate?
2. Visual Display Creativity (33%) How much work and effort did you put into your visual display?
3. Translation of Message in Visual Display (33%) Did you convincingly and thoroughly share the candidates message to the audience?
