In the United States, the federal government has broad authority over immigration policy, yet that authority is still constrained by constitutional principles and civil liberties. Take a position on whether the federal government’s power over immigration should be limited by constitutional protections of individual rights and what the bounds of immigration in our nation should be. Use at least one piece of evidence from one of the following Supreme Court cases:
a. Korematsu v. United States
b. Trump v. Hawaii
In your response you should do the following:
A. Respond to the prompt with a defensible claim or thesis that establishes a clear line of reasoning about the constitutional limits of federal immigration power.
B. Support your claim with at least FOUR pieces of specific and relevant evidence.
C. One piece of evidence must come from one of the Supreme Court cases listed above.
D. At least one piece of evidence must come from the U.S. Constitution.
E. Other evidence may come from the U.S. Constitution, other Supreme Court cases, or credible scholarly sources discussing immigration or civil liberties.
F. Use logical reasoning to explain how your evidence supports your thesis about the constitutional limits or authority of the federal government in immigration policy.
G. Respond to an opposing or alternative perspective by using refutation, concession, or rebuttal to strengthen your argument.
Your paper should demonstrate a clear understanding of constitutional principles, the reasoning used in the Supreme Court’s decisions, and the broader implications for immigration policy in the United States.
